POKHARA VALLEY

Pokhara is 200km west of Kathmandu Valley. It can be expressed as the adventure capital of Nepal. The fantastic view of Machhapuchre (Fish Tail Mountain) 6,977m is mesmerizing and looks on the valley as its guardian, this mountain rising behind it creates an ambience of peace and magic. The serenity of the lake cannot be expressed in words and leaves the tourist spellbound. The most stunning views of the massive mountains are the treasures of the Pokhara Valley.

The powerful rule of the old kings of Kathmandu, the Lichhavis and the Mallas, held sway over this valley for some time. As these dynasties fell prey to their own troubles, Pokhara Valley disintegrated into small kingdoms. Till all the kingdoms were united into one by Tribhuvan Shah who united Nepal. This is the land of the Magars and Gurungs, hardworking farmers and valorous warriors who have earned worldwide fame as Gurkha soldiers. Pokhara has a number of options for short or long treks and beautiful villages around the Machhapuchre, Annapurna and Dhaulagiri region.

Barahi Temple - is the temple in the middle of the lake. It is a two - storied pagoda and is dedicated to the boar manifestation of Ajima, the protectress deity representing the female force Shakti.

Phewa Lake - is the second largest lake in the Kingdom, is the center of all attraction in Pokhara. One can sail or row a hired boat and visit the island temple in the middle.

Seti Gorge - Seti Gandaki flows right through the city, in some places the river runs totally underground. You can visit the gorge to see the boisterous river in its massive strength.

Devi's fall - Locally known as the Patale Chhango (Hell's Fall). Devi's fall is a lovely waterfall. The water comes from the Phewa Lake and fall into a gorge. You could take a short adventure to a cave across the fall and can walk to an underground level below where you can see the beauty of the fall from the foot of the fall.

Mahendra Cave Another of nature's wonders in Pokhara is the Mahendra Gupha. This large limestone cave is known as the House of Bats, an apt name for it. You can see the stalagmites, as well as local residents.

ADVENTUROUS ACTIVITIES
Paragliding
is a relatively new adventure sport in Nepal. In the Himalayan country it can be a truly wonderful and fulfilling experience for the adventure seekers. You can experience unparalleled scenic grandeur as you share airspace with Himalayan griffin vultures, eagles, kites, while floating over villages, monasteries, temples, lakes and jungles with a fantastic view of the majestic Himalayan range.

Horse Riding is a fun way to see around the countryside of Pokhara. You can choose from a number of long or short tours on horse back with guides experienced to give you the pleasure of adventure and comfort blended to see the most beautiful mountain scenes in the world.

Pony Trek provides a fascinating way to experience the mountains of Nepal. For those who can’t take the strain of daily hiking and those who want respite on long treks, there are ponies to ease that burden. Sit astride a pony and feel like what it was to traverse some of the oldest trade routes, where men carrying materials to be bartered opened up paths through the mountains and brought in the influences. Pony treks are becoming increasing popular. The landscape ranging from the plains of valley to the gently undulating hills around and the mountains beyond.

Ultra light Aircraft was introduced here in 1996 and has since been offering sightseeing tours in the Pokhara Valley. The choice of Pokhara for ultra-Light aircraft is appropriate chiefly because of the proximity of the mountains and the scenic lake. For those who wish they could fly like birds this flight is a must. Leave your woes behind on the earth, soar to heights, bathe in the clouds, reach out for the mountains and kiss the azure sky. It might be lonely at the top but the spectacular view from high up there certainly makes up for everything. The flights are available from the Pokhara airport beginning September through June. The flight takes place from sunrise to 11 am and from 3.00 pm to sunset every day during these months.
